Church of St George, Kingston-Upon-Thames KT2

The existing buildings comprised of the main church, church hall, five classrooms and basic support services. Over the years the existing accommodation had been extended in an inappropriate manner and was no longer able to meet the growing requirements of the community.

We helped the community develop a brief for the new works which would fit into the framework of the existing site and provide a long term solution to their expansion needs.

The completed works comprise of:

The Church has been extended by forming two new aisles to the side with a new bell tower to the street elevation. The new apartment has been added above the existing reception hall. A completely new classroom block has been constructed to the rear of the site and is separated from the existing buildings by a small courtyard which provides a central focus to the buildings and helps to unify the different functions and elements of the scheme.

Planning was granted in August 1999 and construction was implemented in four phases, starting with the main school in July 2000 and finishing with the new Bell Tower in 2004. All the works were implemented whilst the existing buildings remained in use.
